The Application Process

I started the application Process a couple of days later, once my brother and I arrived at my mother's house in Jackson, MS. I did the developer quiz available in CoderFoundry and it took 60 minutes to complete. It's a code-free quiz that isn't tied to a specific coding language and some or all of the questions required me to think.

After the quiz I was contacted by Coder Foundry to inform me that one of their representatives will be contacting me in the following days. The representative was going to explain to me how the Cohort works. After that call I had a following video call with Bobby Davis, Founder of Coder Foundry. He answered some questions I had about the course and he also had some questions about me and what sort of involvement I had with coding.

After that they asked me to complete 3 challenges and submit the results.

The following month, waiting for an answer I decided to take several online classes on my own to prepare for the class. I took several HTML, CSS and JavaScript courses.

Back in the 90's I took Pascal and C+ classes. I learned on my own how to do advanced programming on a HP48GX calculator. The peak was creating a program to get the numerical results of a Lineal System on Wave Theory. Unfortunately I was living in Venezuela and the science field is not as developed as in the United States. I didn't continue those studies and ended up on a different path.

A few weeks later I spent a week at my brother's house in Baton Rouge, La. Since he works remote, I brought my computer and setup my workstation in the room next to his office. He advised me to take some C# classes and also supervised me on several small exercises he provided.

At some point I felt overwhelmed, trying to learn in just a few weeks, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and C# with little or no previous exposure. I passed from one language to the other, forgetting the previous language I had studied. It was like learning English. Difficult at the beginning but eventually little by little it started to make sense.

After I came home to Houston, I received the good news I was accepted in the Cohort. Now I needed to apply for the Lauchpad financial option. A few weeks later I was approved and was ready to start the BootCamp on July 5th, 2021.
